PESCARA - PESCARA PROVINCE
Pescara is Abruzzo’s largest city with a population of 378,856. It is found in a strategic position at the mouth of the Aterno-Pescara River. It is known to have ancient Greek origins and a Roman presence but Pescara’s long, chequered history culminated in its bombing during World War II. Much of the centre was reduced to rubble and Pescara has since been massively rebuilt, becoming a modern city.
It is now a mature seaside resort with 16 kms of wide sandy beaches. Pescara is a lively place with an animated sea front that hosts many seafood restaurants with fresh produce, served from the Adriatic, each day. To accompany a delicious meal, whilst overlooking the blue seas, why not enjoy a bottle of local wine? There are plenty of hip clubs, a couple of interesting museums and several festivals, in particular the renowned July Jazz Festival to visit.
The city offers all amenities including a wide variety of shops, banks, bars, restaurants, university and hospital – everything that a resident would need.
Pescara is also a transportation hub, with an airport that has flights from within Europe, a major railway station, well-developed road system and important port. There is also one of the biggest marinas on the Adriatic which holds regular regattas, has a tourist wheel, special seafood restaurants and a variety of bars.
