CIVITELLA DEL TRONTO – TERAMO PROVINCE
The village is at an altitude of 645 metres and overlooks the Vibrata and Salinello river valleys. It is a stunning gem and was recently voted one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Civitella del Tronto is mainly enclosed by walls and is renowned for its impressive fortress which dominates the mountains and sea.
Wander around its beautiful and pristine medieval streets and, in particular, the Ruetta d’Italia which is said to be the narrowest street in all of Italy.
The village is in the Gran Sasso e Monte della Laga National Park and is close to the Gole del Salinello (Saninello Gorges) which offer nature lovers pleasant walks along the course of the river.
The population of 4,700 is served by a chemist, post office, various banks with ATMs, supermarket, bars and restaurants. There is an outdoor market, on both Friday and Sunday mornings, which sells local produce amongst a plethora of other things.
