FARA SAN MARTINO - CHIETI PROVINCE
Fara San Martino stands at the foot of the Majella massif at an elevation of 440 metres above sea level. It is known all over the world for its pasta factories that rely on the clear, spring waters of the Verde River. In fact, it is known as the ‘Capitale Mondiale delle Pasta’ or World Capital of Pasta.
The village is also famous for the Gorge of San Martino which is spectacular, with a long human history, as well as a significant natural history. The gorge is an important nature reserve, home to a family of about eight wolves and a vast range of flowers.
Fara San Martino has an information centre which promotes the Majella National Park. It provides an opportunity to obtain information including tourist brochures, guides and maps of the paths.
Aside from being a lovely town with bright sunny streets, its population of 1,312 is served with supermarkets, food shops, general stores, pharmacy, banks and post office. There is a market, held each Thursday, selling local produce. After strolling around the market partake in lunch or coffee in one of the restaurants and cafeterias.
