Located in the heart of the Abruzzo region and National Park, the picturesque village of Bugnara is built on the hill slopes of Colle Rotondo at 580 metres above sea level. It overlooks the whole Peligna Valley and the surrounding views are stunning. Archaeological discoveries show that the area was settled in ancient times but the cluster layout around the castle is of medieval origin.
Bugnara has been awarded the prestigious title of ‘I Borghi più belli d’Italia’ – one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. It is certainly an attractive place to live.
There are 1,106 inhabitants and the village has a supermarket, pharmacy, bakery, post office, medical clinic, bars and cafés. It is only 8 kms from the larger town of Sulmona which provides all services. For lovers of the outdoors, the surrounding countryside is popular for trekking, mountain biking and winter sports.
Olive oil and pecorino cheese are specialities of Bugnara and there are many food and music festivals in both Bugnara and neighbouring villages.
