The village has approximately 3,000 inhabitants and is 370 metres above sea level. It is on a hillside overlooking the Lavino Valley with stunning countryside and mountain views.

Lettomanopello was originally occupied by the Romans, who excavated asphalt in the area. It was subsequently quarried for its white stone and marble and is still famous for its stonemasons’ workshops which keep an ancient tradition alive. The history of the current town dates to the 11th century.
