CAMPO DI GIOVE - L’AQUILA PROVINCE
Campo di Giove is in the Majella National Park at a height of 1,064 metres above sea level. It is known as an ‘all year’ holiday destination and is a bustling town with many holiday and sports facilities - a perfect place to live for lovers of the outdoors. It also offers plenty of long walks through the nearby beech and pine woods. In winter the 5 lifts give access to 7.5 kms of slopes for both skiing and snowboarding.
The historical centre still has a medieval ambience and there are some excellent examples of civil architecture that can be viewed.
The town has centuries of customs which are celebrated in the events and festivals that are held throughout the year. Of particular note is the ‘Sagra del Paponne’ which is a food festival based on a dish made from polenta, potatoes, bread and bacon. This was traditionally a substantial meal providing shepherds with the energy to guide the sheep along tracks from Abruzzo to Puglia.
The population of 798 is served by a bank, pharmacy, post office, food shops, cafés, bars and restaurants.
