GORIANO SICOLI - L’AQUILA PROVINCE
A medieval village, on a hill, at 720 metres above sea level. It is at the southern end of the Subequana Valley surrounded by woods and plains. The village is charming with historical entrances, piazzas, old houses and ancient churches.
Goriano Sicoli’s local cuisine is linked to the past and is based on sheep farming and agriculture. There is a special pasta served with beans, mutton and pork sauce garnished with truffle shavings. Enjoy too, pecorino cheese processed in the original way with mountain honey. During the first couple of weeks in August there is also the festival of the ‘ciambella gorianese’ which is the Goriano doughnut.
The 516 inhabitants have limited facilities including a bakery, small supermarket, post office, pharmacy, bars and restaurants. The larger town of Pratola Peligna is 20 minutes away with many more services.
