It is just a few kilometres away from the ski slopes of Ovindoli, the archaeological site (dating back to Roman times) of Alba Fucens, and the Sirente-Velino and Simbruini mountain natural parks.
In addition, the villa is only a few kilometres from the tollbooth of the parks motorway, which makes it possible to reach Rome in about 45 minutes. Via the same motorway it is possible to reach (in less than an hour) the coast of Abruzzo, dotted with countless magnificent seaside resorts.
SCURCOLA MARSICANA - L’AQUILA PROVINCE
On the slopes of Mount Nicola rises Scurcola Marsicana to a height of 700 metres above sea level. It is a town that is surrounded by mountains and views of enchanting beauty. Scurcola is also renowned for ancient rituals and the hospitality of its people.
Towards the top of the town is The Orsini Fortress which is worth examining. It dominates the area and the most ancient part dates back to the 13th century. The outer walls are amazing although the castle, itself, is currently closed for renovations.
The town has a population of 2,670. It has reasonable amenities including a bank, post office, and chemist. There are a few shops, bars and restaurants. Avezzano with more facilities is less than 10 kms away.
Lastly the events that take place over Easter are unique. There is the commemoration of the Last Supper and the ‘Calvary’ which includes a fervent procession involving the entire population.
