FARINDOLA - PESCARA PROVINCE
The picturesque centre of Farindola is medieval in origin with characteristic stairways and pathways that criss-cross the historic heart. The town boasts numerous churches which possess valuable works of art. The parish church of San Nicola and the remains of the castle are definitely worth a visit.
Farindola is located on the eastern slopes of the Gran Sasso at 530 metres above sea level and is a wonderful base for nature lovers with natural springs, panoramic walks and unique fauna. It has also been designated the scientific centre of the National Park of Gran Sasso and the Monti della Laga.
The area is famous for its Pecorino cheese and there is a festival held, each year, to celebrate this tasty speciality.
Perfect for sport lovers is the local ‘Centro Sportivo’ which has a swimming pool, sun chairs, sun beds and bar. For the more energetic there is also a tennis court and football field.
Catering for the 1,486 inhabitants are numerous facilities including restaurants, bars, pharmacy, mini-market, butcher, baker, bank and post office. There is a weekly market, each Friday morning, which takes place in the main square.
